My 2023 Air Force One Detailing Experience: Growth, Grit, and Gratitude

When Car Bath Mobile Detailing first joined the Air Force One Detailing Team in 2022, I had no idea what I was getting myself into. I’d heard the stories about the intensity and the honor of detailing such an iconic aircraft, but nothing truly prepares you until you’re there. Looking back, my first year was exhilarating but overwhelming—there were so many unknowns, from the detailing techniques to the endurance needed for six straight days of intense work.

In 2023, with a year of experience, I was ready. I knew what to expect mentally and physically, and I went in with a new level of preparation. This time, I learned how to pace myself, prepare for the long days, and, most importantly, appreciate every moment.

The Rhythm of the Air Force One Detailing Team

The Air Force One Detailing Team experience is like nothing else. It’s a six-day marathon, with each day packed from early morning to night. Our days start with a quick breakfast before shuttling over to the Museum of Flight, where we gather as a large team to set the day’s game plan. After that, we break into smaller teams, each with specific tasks. By now, I know the drill well: we work intensely through the morning, take a short break for lunch, and then get back at it until the day’s tasks are done. It’s a full eight-hour grind, requiring focus, resilience, and a love for the craft.

The nights are a welcome reprieve. Back at the hotel, it’s a routine of showers, dinner, and then as much rest as possible. The camaraderie that builds among the team these days is exceptional. There’s a shared understanding of the physical demands, the sense of purpose, and the pride of contributing to this monumental project.

Honored and Humbled

Reflecting on 2023, I feel deeply grateful for the journey I’ve been on with the Air Force One Detailing Team. Each year has brought lessons and memories, but this year felt particularly special. It was humbling to be able to return with more confidence and a clear understanding of the project’s importance. I am proud to have been part of preserving a piece of history, contributing my skills to honor the legacy of Air Force One and everything it represents.
